Nintendo Rock

I'm not that big a fan of video games at this point in my life. I guess it's not so much that I don't like them, but can never really find the time to sit down and play them without feeling guilty. Back in the day though I was addicted to the early video game systems like Nintendo and Sega. So it's really no surprise that whenever I hear the theme songs to Super Mario Bros., Metroid, Castelvania, Kid Icarus, Contra and a couple of other games that I'm transported back to the days of my youth, sitting in front of a TV all hours of the day eating junk food and playing until my hands cramped. At least that's what I did until I discovered beer! So I decided to find a bunch of music related to the early Nintendo days. Some of it is good, a lot of it is bad, but all of it reminds me of being a kid...and that's always a good thing. There's a lot of stuff here, but take your time and geek out for a bit. I promise I won't tell anyone.
First, BWE had a post today about 14 different covers of the Super Mario Bros. theme all played on 15 different instruments, including a saxophone, beat-boxing flute, accordion and more. Some of them are pretty amazing, like the blindfolded piano guy, and others (handfarting guy) are not quite as, err, musical. You can check out all the videos right here. Some people have a lot of time on their hands...here's a guy playing the entire theme on classical guitar:
Here are a bunch of MP3s for you from various bands who have covered Nintendo themes. I have also included some of the original themes to bring you back to the days of yore.

And finally, go and get your Duck Hunt on!
