Let The Holiday Season Begin!

So tomorrow is December #1, and that means the Holidays will be here before you know it.  To put you in the mood, here are a couple of Holiday related music tidbits floating around the internets.  Don't worry, we'll have a much more comprehensive Holiday Song post coming in a couple of months.

It seems all our indie favs are getting into the spirit of Christmas.  First Sufjan, and now the Decemberists with a instant holiday classic to slur...I mean sing along to while throwing back the ole' eggnog.  "Please Daddy (Don't Get Drunk this Christmas)" is available for streaming, or for purchasing as part of an exclusive EP via Sony Connect's download service.

The Brits want in on the good times Holiday Music as well so on December 11th the East Sussex UK label Izumi Records will release It's Not Like Christmas featuring classic covers and originals from artists like El Perro Del Mar, Duke Spirit, Electric Soft Parade, Duels and the Holiday supergroup composed of The Futureheads, Field Music and Golden Virgins who go by the moniker, wait, you ready, The Joseph and Mary Chain. awesome.  The record is worth it just to hear the version of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" that they do.  You can stream a couple of tracks over on the records' very own MySpace page and check out the full track listing below:

01 Duels - "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
02 Iain Archer - "Little Drummer Boy (Black Forest Version)"
03 David Ford - "Have Yourself a Bitter Little Christmas"
04 The Late Greats - "Sleigh Ride"
05 Ingo Star Cruiser [ft. Gaby Froden] - "Just Like Christmas"
06 Amusement Parks on Fire [ft. Leila Moss] - "The Day It Snowed"
07 Duke Special and David Ford - "Of Whoredom and Falconry"
08 Emmy the Great [ft. Lightspeed Champion] - "Christmas in Prison"
09 747s - "Blue Christmas"
10 Amazing Pilots - "White Christmas"
11 Swimming - "In Dulci Jubilo"
12 The Joseph and Mary Chain - "The Twelve Days of Christmas"
13 Minuteman - "Last Christmas"
14 Envelopes - "Pink Christmas"
15 El Perro Del Mar - "Oh! What a Christmas"
16 The Electric Soft Parade - "The Friday Before Christmas"
17 Matt Harding - "Purple Snowflakes"
18 Sketches for Albinos - "Let It Snow"

And finally, Stereogum has put together a pretty comprehensive list of all the Christmas Albums out this Holiday season.  I don't know if I will be checking out the Clay Aiken or Bette Midler offerings, but the Aimee Mann record (look for a track in the next LG MusicPlayer) and the Sufjan Stevens Box Sets are both worthy gifts for your friends and/or lovers!

Oh, and what would the Holiday's be without a little Billy Idol!  I have never really considered "White Christmas" to be creepy...until now of course.  For more "wowness" check out Mr. idol's MySpace page.  You won't be sorry...well you will be, but in a really good way!
