Embarrassment, Re: Virginia Tech, In Touch Magazine, and Myself
The world is recovering from a monumental tragedy, and apparently nobody at In Touch Magazine fully comprehends that. I'm embarrassed for myself, Jessica, Brad and Angelina that we're awkwardly wedged into a cover on a supermarket trash mag that should be dedicated entirely to the Virginia Tech shootings. See for yourself.
Nauseating. I mean, Newsweek did a full cover on the tragedy - why can't In Touch? I hate to have to do their jobs for them, but apparently it's up to me to propose a tasteful cover for their crummy magazine. If they're so desperate to get gossip out in front, I say consider the feelings of a grieving nation and use a pull-out cover:
I think that's an appropriate compromise. Now come on, In Touch, it's time to get your head in the game. Frankly, I'm embarrassed for your staff and their families.

I can see how that could make you feel stupid/self conscious but their customers are probably not the Newsweek type. In Touch just wants to make their money.
THEIR customers might be the type that pay to see someone disrespect themselves and their significant other by say...I don't know...walking around in public with their nipple on display while their significant other is out of the country making a respectable living and maintaining a well-respected reputation and his integrity .
Fortunately for you, your admirers are also compelled to convey the truth and share embarrassment when necessary.

Unfortunately business remains business, it may not be morally right but...? I can just hear the people from In Touch now, "What did you expect us to do?!"
I have to say though, if it were my choice I would probably have dedicated the whole page to VT, I mean it's just for that one issue! Maybe even set aside a portion of the days earnings to help someone...anyone!
Oh and I'm slightly confused about this blog, if it's fake, it's one hell of a job! If it isn't, it's so candid and honest...wow. I guess either way it's a good thing, plus I'm hooked so there's not much I can do now :)

anonymous - I think we're the big story right now, especially in the charity department (read my new blog on Global Warming for more). The caption was just something I thought they would write - I was going for In Touch's "voice."

As a Blacksburg resident I appreciate your suggestion. As a music fan and JM superfan I hate the stalking the two of you are having to endure. As a magazine subscriber/reader from health to cooking to home design to *gasp* pop-culture (aka gossip to some) I get what the mags are trying to do. I just live my life by the old adage... if you wouldn't want your boss or loved one to read about it on the front cover of the newspaper then don't do it. But your world is so different from mine... although my town had a glimpse of media mania for the week after April 16th. Everything you do is magnified and matters to so many more people. It matters whether you like it or not... because your music has mattered on some level to someone you then also are significant as a person on some level to them. I think about the people I know in my small world who work, who are artists, who love and everyone in this small town knows what everyone else is up to. So really your world is the same just on a much bigger scale. -Sher from Blacksburg
