Clive Owen Will Defend Your Baby!

This week I caught a preview screening of Shoot 'Em Up, the new Clive Owen popcorn bloodbath, which was totally awesome.  However, little did I realize that the movie would have so much in common with Owen's last movie, the Oscar-worthy bloodbath Children of Men.  Here's the plot of both movies:

An innocent man volunteers to help a pregnant woman, only to realize that the job will involve defending a much sought-after baby by any means necessary (mostly by running away and/or killing people).

In a way, Shoot 'Em Up almost seems like a parody of Children of Men.  Children is about an everyman who risks his life to defend a baby, which is exactly the same thing as in Shoot 'Em Up, except instead of an everyman, Clive Owen plays an unstoppable one-man wrecking crew who jokes around and eats carrots.  I wonder if after agreeing to do Children, Owen was like, "man, I wish my character had superhuman killing skills and made lots of wisecracks -- that baby would be defended up to its ass!"

One can only assume that was the case.
