The Best Rock Movies Ever!

Here are the Liquid Generation top ten "Rock" movies of all time!

Almost Famous – This Cameron Crowe film encompasses any rock fans dream:  to hang out with the band, get the band’s girl, and write about it for Rolling Stone.  I guess the indie rock version of this would involve more blow, less LSD, and blogging about it for Stereogum.  The film contains magical moments (the Tiny Dancer in a bus scene is classic and who could forget “I’m on drugs!”) and captures the spirit of ditching school to follow you rock dreams…You heard me, school is for losers!

Sid and Nancy – I got a thing for Gary Oldman, screwed up romance, classic punk, untimely death and drugs…so this movie has it all, including the classic Sinatra moment.

Walk the Line – I got a thing for Reese Witherspoon, screwed up romance, classic country, untimely death and drugs…wait, there is no untimely death in this movie.  This movie managed to live up to my high expectations and capture a lot of the energy of Cash’s music.

Detroit Rock City – Edward Furlong’s last great movie…and I’m not really into Kiss, but whatever band you kids have to see no matter what…you gotta have tickets!  A couple of these guys went on to star in Cabin Fever, perhaps the best movie of all time.

Singles – Another Cameron Crowe flick, this one capturing the grunge music at its pre-explosion.  Great cameos from Pearl Jam, Tim Burton, Chris Cornell, and Matt Dillon doing the best Eddie Vedder impersonation ever.

High Fidelity – An essential part of rock and roll is the record store, which internets such as us are trying to destroy.  From the Nick Hornsby novel, this is a film about how music affects our everyday life, for better or worse.

Dazed and Confused – Ah man, summers gonna be great!  Gonna see Aerosmith, smoke some weed, whatever man!  This movie is not really even about music…but isn’t it?

Airheads – A rock band holds a radio station hostage to get their song played on the radio…fifteen years later the radio is obsolete, their brand of rock music is obsolete and Adam Sandler is obsolete.  Go Figure?

That Thing You Do – Capturing the quick rise and fall of a one hit wonder, this movie packs a lot of heart...if you can watch it without getting sick of the title track (you’ll hear it about 27 times).

24 Hour Party People – A dramatized history of the early eighties rise to fame of Joy Division and other Manchester bands…the music gets overshadowed by Steve Coogan’s  awesomeness.

What did I miss?  This is Spinal Tap?  Yeah, I know, it was number 11…
