Live: Ferraby Lionheart and Jaymay

Ferraby Lionheart has been gathering some pretty impressive buzz throughout the magical land of the internet, most recently impressing many bloggers, err, "tastemakers" last week at Pianos in the NYC.  So happy with the recent accolades was Ferraby that he made his way across the country to theFerraby_1 dark and dingy (like a Rock Venue should be) confines of the Silver Lake Lounge in Los Angeles, CA.  The small room was packed for Ferraby's set and he delivered...for the most part.  Don't get me wrong, it was a great performance highlighting some equally impressive songs, but I think I might have been  a victim of the hype.  I just hope it dies down a bit for Ferraby so people's expectations are not skewed.  That being said, you should definitely 100% check him out if he makes it to your town.  There have been many Rufus Wainwright comparisons tossed about, and while I can sorta see that I feel like he might be more akin to recent Folkies the Guillemots or even a stripped down version of the Sleepy Jackson.  All great things to sound like...buy his debut self-titled EP here and check out his MySpace page for audio.

A lot of people are kicking themselves for not showing up early to catch the opening act Jaymay last night.  She is a singer songwriter from Long Island who is currently in the process of recording her debut record.  Like Ferraby she has gained considerable momentum through MySpace and other internet outlets and even had a great write up in Reuters late this past Summer.  There is something about her voice that is truly compelling and unique.  It's just one of those things that certain people are born with.  The great thing is Jaymay uses it so well in terms of songwriting, smart and poignant Jaymay3 lyrics and even whistling!  She definitely has the entire package.  If for some strange reason she doesn't "make it" then I might have to just give up on music.  You can buy her debut EP Sea Green, See Blue on her website which is full of a lot of other great content.  Also check out her MySpace page for more audio and downloads.  Highly recommended.
